Living Water: A Short Word of Hope

What is Living Water?

One shocking reality of taking care of an infant is being awakened by a cry like you’ve never heard.

The immediate response is to stop that cry, but you have to figure out how.  Is the baby hungry? Do they have a temperature?  Maybe they just need a clean diaper or a pacifier.

As adults, we can be just as frustrated as babies -not exactly sure of what we need or how to get it.

But before we run to our familiar places of comfort, remember that we have access to a God who can give us living water.

Living water is the satisfaction that Jesus supplies once we begin a relationship with him. We can count on him to clarify the root of our issues and give us hope, just like Jesus did for the Samaritan woman when they crossed paths.

When the Samaritan woman arrived at the well, Jesus surprised her by asking her for a drink.  He said, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” (John 4:10 NIV)

He knew he had the only solution that would satisfy the thirst of her soul.

This encounter with Jesus shows us something that can save our lives.  It shows us that we can come straight to him, instead of going place to place, food to food, or person to person in search for comfort.

Because of Jesus' complete wholeness and perfection, we can be whole too through our fellowship with him.

How do I get living water?

REFLECTION POINT

Psalm 1:1-3 says a lot about how to stay "planted by the rivers of water."

Take a moment to read it, and ask God to help you stay in the place where you can continue to be blessed by his stream.

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.
