A Short Devotion for Today
When I was still in college, I was given a pretty big job with a salary, and I was not used to that. So, I didn't really know anything about negotiating. And after I signed the contract, a friend of mine gave me a bombastic side-eye to accompany her sentiment that I should have asked for more.
My heart sunk.
However, I knew something of the Lord. I was growing, and he was showing me new things. One of those things was that he will always take care of me. And as time went on, I began to receive perks that, at the end of the contracted year, would have added up to much more than the gap in the salary “I deserved.”
Free, catered gourmet food for lunch every day, a fully refurbished computer system, a pair of new name-branded shoes that happened to be my size, and a trip to NY won at a Christmas party. The unthinkable. And I knew that it was God. But I never thought he would do it that way.
Have you started this week wondering about your future? Maybe something has been taken from you that you felt you needed or the door was shut to an opportunity you once had.
Consider the Lord, and how he works.
Perhaps there is something unconventional that God wants you to do, and you haven't fully realized that this transition will work out for your good.
Don't start this week fretting on what it looks like. If you are on God's side, then he is on your side. God has some good surprises waiting for you. And, at the end of your story, you're going to have a "I never thought he'd do it like this" story - a story of victory.
And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them. Deuteronomy 28:13
I Never Thought He’d Do It Like This!
This week, I encourage you to focus on the outcome. Because it's going to be great. Write down three things you are good at or areas where you shine. Ask God to show you how to use your gifts and talents going forward.
Reflection Point
Today’s Morning Prayer
“God, thank you for this Monday. I believe that you are giving me a fresh chance to talk to you about my future and the dreams you’ve placed in my heart. I know that you will work everything together for my good, so please make my steps clear and give me peace as I take these leaps of faith about the things you’ll show me. With you, I can be confident that my future will be great, because you are great and I am one of your children. In Jesus’ name; Amen.”
