Why Do We Worship: A Devotion on The Secret Place

What happens when we worship God?

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them. Acts 13:2 (NIV)

Sometimes, I leave my keys in my pocket, but I don’t realize they’re there. Under the pillows, I scramble, deep into my purse. If they're not in one purse, I check the other. Then, I remember to slow down and pray.

I know that God is about to help me, like he always does.
Many decisions we need to make in life take a similar process. Searching Google for practical answers. Gauging our friends’ opinions. However, sometimes, we still don’t find the peace we’re looking for. Let me suggest that our answer - the solution to our biggest dilemmas, is in our worship.

When you worship God, you open your heart to an overflow of God’s Spirit. When you worship, you invite God to come right there in the room and be with you - a wonderfully vulnerable moment.

Being open for God to move through worship is an act of surrender. It’s putting yourself in a prime position to accept divine guidance from the God of all power. This is the precious moment where it often all comes together. It is known as the secret place.

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'"
Psalm 91:1-2 (ESV)
